Sunday Service: Ancient Florida Native Americans

Synopsis: Native Americans have lived in Florida for 14,000 years based on archeological finds. Nationally they go back 18,000 years. An 11,000 year old bog burial site was found in Titusville in the 1980’s with hundreds of well preserved bodies. Our county was a bountiful home to Native Americans during archaic times and all the way up to our colonial discovery. Florida was slow to be colonized but the ancient tribes that thrived in our state are now gone. It is inspiring for us to try to understand the people who lived here for thousands of years.

Speaker: Larry Abdullah

Bio: Larry Abdullah has retired from a career as a systems analyst at Ford, Harris and finally 22 years at the Florida Solar Energy Center in Cocoa. He has been associated with Unitarian churches in Brevard since 1982. During this time, he has volunteered as a board and CLC member for some years.
